How Web Templates Have Evolved

The most basic form of website template is the HTML template. This simply provides page elements in HTML code in the form of a web template, which the site owner can customize.

One direction in which website templates have evolved is to Flash templates. Standard flash elements are contained in the element, and then the user customizes only certain areas of the web template. In effect, a Flash template is usually an HTML template with one or more Flash elements that don't change.

Another direction in the evolution of website templates is from simple HTML templates to CSS templates.

CSS Templates and Joomla Templates

There is a trend toward increased usage in cascading style sheets (CSS) in general, and CSS templates. With CSS templates, a single change in a style sheet "cascades" across every page on a site.

At the same time, we are seeing a trend toward interest in Joomla templates -- which is likely due, in large part, to the fact that Joomla templates incorporate a cascading style sheet (CSS) characteristic (and can also incorporate Flash features if desired).
